Hi Everyone & Happy Easter!!
It's been awhile since cruising these boards(since my new member intro)and thought that Id update everyone with a few pics of my first DW and my first impression of the gun so far without shooting it yet. So after picking it up I was so tempted to go straight to the range and sling led down the pipe. Instead I went home to have a closer look at my newest purchase. I was so excited to finally be able to take it home nanner After doing some heavy research on custom 1911's I decided on a DW I knew to expect that the gun would be fitted tighter than most production 1911's. For a minute I had to wrestle with the barrel bushing and torque it with the supplied bushing wrench because it was so tight. I was pleased by it! Finally I get it loose and proceed to field strip the gun. Here it is naked:D The look, the fit, the feel & quality that other DW owners express is evident. I could not agree more!! http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/DSC01299.jpg I recently looked up a 1911 armorers class here in the Bay Area as I would like to learn how to do a full detailed strip on my own in the future. but I was unsuccessful in my search:( I guess youtube videos will have to do for now. Fresh out the box http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/DSC01291.jpg Beautiful!! After cleaning, lubing & reassembling I thought that Id try on a set of grips from Sarge. http://shop.thefinergrain.com/ He is absolutely great to deal with & does a outstanding job! See...:D http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/DSC01224.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/DSC01227.jpg The species on the left is Honduran Rosewood. I guess I visited Sarge's online shop on the right day:) The set on the right is Redwood Burl. Both sets display natural two tone. I love them both. Thanks Sarge.nanner http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/DSC01317.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/DSC01323.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSC01350-1.jpg I hate to leave it at this:D (follow up range report coming soon) cross posted @1911forum |

New-guy here, wow that's a sweet Dan Wesson! (Came in and registered off a link at CalGuns.)
Re: the armorer's course, I just picked up a flyer at Reed's here in the South Peninsula, for "Jardine's 1911 Essentials" - an 8-hour course that they will be holding...but I can't tell WHEN?! Reed's is exasperating sometimes... Those Sarge grips are pretty swell. |

Hey Thanks!! & Welcome to COTEP! Good looking out on the armorer's course. I looked it up and you are right...they make it clear that it's 8 hours long & $200.00 & that's it. haha I'll give them a call and see what's up. You plan on signing up? Let's do this! |
Something I'll have to wait-on a bit. I'm taking the Stage-1 Louis Awerbuck class next weekend. Gonna have to miss my regular Zouaves 200-yard Match at Metcalf - and after that I'm kinda tapped-out. The Ed Brown set me back! :-)
