Those are really good looking guns.
What is the deal with the P7 guns? As there seams to be a bit of a cult following the P7. Sorry if I am sounding ignorant about it. |
I have always wanted one. Yes there seems to be a cult following.
It is a fixed barrel gas operated pistol It has no saftey. The pistol is carried with one round in the camber, but not cocked. As you draw the weapon you sqeeze the cocking handle (about 12lbs of pressure to cock, but 1.5 lbs to keep it squeezed) you can fire the weapon then in Single action mode from then on. This one is 8 round mag with one in the chamber. It has a heel mag release. About 5 years ago the german police turned in theses p7 psp (police service pistol) to HK, HK then graded them on quality of the internals. IE A,B,C, you could have an AS new "a" grade gun with holster wear, Or B/C grade gun that was shot quite a bit but with no holster wear. One of the often lauded things of this pistol is that its grip angle is at 110 degrees. So when you draw the pistol and have your index finger along side the frame your eyes will sight right where your finger points. In addition the barrel is on cm up and to the left give or take a few mm. It is by far the lowest bore axis i have ever seen. Anyways supposedly this combined with the gas operation makes a very light recoil pistol that is quick on target and nearly as quick for follow ups. It is reported to be an excellent pistol for small groups owing to the above factors and its polygonal bore. how much of that do i believe? I don't know. I shoot well with many pistols i will see how accurate this is in the weeks to come. This one had the slide and frame refinished in black teflon over at mitch's shop here in ct. |

I own a high power and a guardian.
I can hit a man size target 13 out of 13 times at 50 yds with the highpower I can hit a 15" gong at 175 yds with the guardian 9 out of 10 times. at 35ft I can hit the dime sized sticky dots at the range with the guardian. I love the high powers, but they are in no way in the same class as the DW Guardian 9mm i will let you know on the p7 |

I have owned one of every variant at one time or another, except the P7. The P7M8, my favorite, seems to be going up in price nowadays. You are lucky to find one, without the warning, for $1300-$1500. And I won't even mention the M10 and M13. Congratulations on yours. :) |

Love it! Had one beautifully refinished with Nils grips and new night sights but sold it in a moment of weakness. Good luck with that beauty. I have heard it called the Cadillac of carry guns but maybe BMW (or in your case Audi) would make more sense!

the trigger is a bit to get used to. I got it down now though.
I cleaned it after i got it, lubed it. I made the mistake, i think, of grabbing the patch with grease not oil and lubing the piston. I put about 200 rounds through it the first day i shot it. The fouling was so thick at the end of the piston, and piston tube it was a bitch to get free. I cleaned it again and saw what i did. This time i used 30wt, motor oil in a light coating, wiped off the excess and put about 150 rounds through it. I did not have any problems then. I really like the way it sucks right up to my aiming style, very intuitive. It shoots really well. To be honest, it is a toss up with my 225 i picked up a few days later. i have photos here somewhere. I will post them up. Dime sized dots with the 22lr pistols at 25ft. If you have seen my other photos i have two other sets of Nill's. But around 200 a set with shipping, i chose to give another maker a go. http://www.grips4u.net/index.php?cPath=118_42 The good news is they are beautiful, and about 1/3rd the price this set of 3 grips ran me 238 including shipping. Lets talk a bit about the grips, the store, and what i think over all. First, the store has a good layout, the owners have done an excellent job helping you find the correct grip for your odd ball gun. Case in point, selecting the correct grips on HK p7, Flush mag release, not flush, or retro fitted. Check out was smooth and easy. The next point was shipping. Because of the price point i was given free shipping. The quote I received was "Shipping Quote:

So i get the grips today, I look at them all. The P7 grips have the a notorious flange on them that is prone to breaking. Well my left side had a crack, No big deal. I will shoot the piss out of the pistol. I dab a bit of super glue to hold it in place and let it dry while i inspect the others. When i go to put the P7 grips on they go on about as easy as any set of non flexible p7 grips do. Which is to say, like threading a needle blindfolded. They do go on and are nice and snug. I check fit before i put the screws on. Then i check to see if the slide will clear the upper flange of the p7 grips. Oh, the slide will not go on... Hmmm this is a bit odd. I remove the p7 grips and I am still having issues with the slide. I remove the firing pin and it still will not go on. I check to see if i have any roll pins out of place. The new grips put pressure on the mag catch. that pressure causes it to push in keeping the slide from going into battery. With my fingernail i was able to put opposite pressure on the trigger side of the mag catch and the slide went into battery. I check this 20-30 times more, and yep it goes on. I put the grips back on, finger tight the screws and put the slid on, sure thing pressure on the mag catch keeps the slide from going into battery and fully seating on the rails. I apply pressure at the trigger portion of the slide catch and poof, it is on. A couple of function checks and it is wiped down and put away. After i inspected the p7 I opened the cz82. The grips looked good, and fit well. My only complaint is right behind the saftey on both grips. It looks like a monkey with a rasp rounded the corners of the wood. The rest of the grips look so good that it does stand out. Again, i will probably put far worse dings and scratches in them with as often as I shoot it. The gun it self is no pristine prom queen. I do plan on having it refinished but, for now it just gives it character. the grips went on well, fit to the gun is excellent. The checkering is not as crisp and sharp as the p7 or P225 grips, then again, the gun isn't a P7 or P225 either. The sig P225 grips. Well for one, they don't have a logo. It's honestly a little thorn in my side. Mostly because i did not know i was not getting them. I would have rather waited for them, then have not known. So, fit and finish. Everything looks good checkering wise. the decocking relief, and the Mag release relief had the cousin to the cz monkey working on them. Yeah yeah, i am used to Nill's, the fit and finish is not exactly the same. I can live with the rough edges. What drove me nuts is the fact the back of the grips did not meet up. I had enough of a gap to slide two sheets of paper in it. Groan. The wood was binding at the inside edge from 1/3rd of the way down. A little sanding here, and there and i have it fitting as good as i can. The gap no longer can be felt in my palm. It is annoying though. My Nill grips on my sig do not do this. the Nill grips on my Smith and wesson 627 do but only at the very top where no flesh comes into contact with it. Right now i can't fit a piece of rice paper in it. So i think i have it well enough that i will not mess with it further. so you may think i am like "OMFG wtfBBQ". Well, no. Actually i am fine with these. They are grips on guns that will be shot relentlessly. I will enjoy them, much more than the plastic they had. The niggling little issues here and there are part of the character my guns now possess. Down to the flaws and dings. I did not go into this purchase looking for Nill quality. Nor did i want to cart my nill grips to the range every time i felt the urge to shoot these. I bought and received, exactly what i was hoping. Good looking serviceable and functionable grips. Minus the Logo fiasco i am happy and would order from them again. |
