Remington Rand
Just picked this up. I don't think it could be upgraded. The residue on the gun is from the wax paper. I don't think the slide has ever been racked.

WHAT THE HECK!!!!! How in the world did you find that jewel? Congratulations on the purchase.
One of my buddies dad has an old Colt. I don't remember the year on it but it is OLD. It's beautiful. Not beat up at all but 99% of the blueing is gone. It's just "grayish silver". I go over to his house once a month to clean it and inspect it because HE STILL SHOOTS IT! I make really light reloads for him to shoot through it, just enough oomph to cycle the pistol and not beat it up. I tried to talk him out of shooting it but he wasn't having any of that. He shoots it very well and often. He won't part with it either. I've offered him a generous amount of money. Again, congratulations. That's really nice. |
great find! if i had one like that part of me would want to leave it as is and the other part would want to take it out and shoot it.:D

Zilmo, apparently... you have a govt. model manufactured in 1944. By this time, Remington Rand was making all its own parts (earlier models by RR contained parts from the other manufacturers, with some coming from Singer machinery.) Your's is definitely considered a "jewel." Can't see the markings below the slide stop in your picture (if any).... but if its there and it says "FJA" that the mark of Col Frank J. Atwood, Inspector of Ordnance. Other inspection proof marks can be found on the bottom side of the trigger guard.
You have a rare gem here. Personally, I wouldn't touch it unless the old Fat historian guy on the Military Channel wrote you a certified letter telling you to have some work done on it!!!!! LOL..... For more info on the Remington Rand series 1911 : http://coolgunsite.com/images/rem%20...mrandstory.htm Congratulations! DaFadda |
Great find!

Great pistol, Zilmo!
Personally, I'm torn. It almost seems sacrilege to me to own a pistol that will never be fired. That said, you and the rest are correct. It would be a shame to change it in any way :( Tom |
Lots of "experts" on the 1911 forum telling me that:
A. It needs to be cleaned. B. The wax and grease on it are not original. C. No one has ever seen a box like that before. D. If you can't shoot it, it isn't worth having. God I love internet forums. |

The cosmoline will not hurt it, after all they are stored like that for future use. |
My Friend that is one of the reasons I spend most of my time on this Forum, do a search on the internet about everything you mentioned..............
None of the members on the 1911 are real Collectors......................IMHO....... Clyde |
The only real collector on that forum is John Holbrook. He has a collection of Military 1911's that should be in a museum!!!
|
I had the mods delete my thread. I got really tired of the BS.

I dream to have one of these "Jewels" one day and at the same time, I hope I don't find one I can afford............'cause I will shoot it!. Nice score!
BTW: I know this thread is old but, new to me. :p |
Wow, that's awesome!
|
I think I would be VERY tempted to clean it up! But that's just me...
I'd want to see it in brand spanking new condition. I don't really consider wax and cosmoline part of the "original" condition. Something like a coat of Mobil1 to make it look all shiny and new. Caked cosmoline just turns me off. |
