First Annual COTEP 'Long-Range Shoot'!
Alex and I were kicking around an Idea last night. A long-range shooting competition with 1911s. Range will be 50yards, five shots, smallest group wins. Target will be an Official NRA B-16 twenty-five yard slowfire pistol target with a 5" bull.
RULES: 1.) Iron sights only, no laser sights, optical sights or Red-Dot sights. Any iron sights allowed. 2.) Only the numbered target you will be sent can be entered(However, you can buy as many B-16 practice targets as you want). All targets submitted must have a signed witness. 3.) Competition will be open to 9mm, 38Super. 45ACP and 10mm. 4.) Handloaded ammo is permitted 5.) You may use a rest as long as the barrel is not supported. 6.) Since our membership is so widespread, country will be divided into four regions. Each regional winner will be recognized and all four regional winners will shoot a second time to determine overall winner. 7.) Winner shall be determined by smallest group in the black measured hole-center to hole-center at widest point. Five-round group. 8.) Targets with obvious powder burns will be disqualified Ellison. This is a fun-shoot Guys, if enough people show interest we will set up the time-table, rules finalized and any prizes we can get donated. Everybody will be on the honor-system here just like any NRA Postal-shoot. Okay! the shoot is on! Either PM or E-mail Alex(BadOscar) your address for an official scoring target. all scoring targets must be at my address NLT 15November2013, PM or E-mail me for my address. |
Sounds COOL......I've never shot a pistol any further then 30 yards, Although this sounds fun I will not partake.
Best of luck to those who do. |
sounds interesting.....
|
Does iron sights only include FO front sight? Just nit picking. I'm interested.
|
I like this idea......can do at my South Carolina property, if I am there during the set time table.
|
Pretty neat but not for me!!
|
sounds like a lot of fun. count me in...I don't do well at distance but I like the idea!
|
I'm in depending on the time schedule. Due to travel schedules, I won't be able to hit the range for about a month.
I'll be getting my shop back in operation and would be happy to donate a prize if that's of interest. Lane |
Sounds like fun but the ISRA range I belong to doesn't allow pistols on the 100yd range. I'll have to pass. I am interested in seeing the targets posted from those that do participate.

Sounds good Lane!!! Is the rb still working OK for you!!!:) |
But, I can't see 100 yards, unless it's straight down. :(
|
Sounds really cool. Furthest I've shot my 1911 is 75 yards and that felt like I was doing a call for fire mission :)

I don't mean to change the rules but a number of guys can not shoot at 100 yards because of range rules, how about a 50 yard? still very difficult I think and will get more guys involved...just a thought. Either way I am in, my range doesn't care what you shoot at what range. |

With a .45 I kind of agree here.. a 25yd bull at 50yds would be about the same MOA right ? |
Well, the reason I said 100 yards is because some on here, present company included, are old Bullseye shooters who trained and competed at both twenty-five and fifty yards. I was trying to negate some perceived advantage we might have to make it fairer. But, if most can only access a fifty yard range, with Alex's concurrance, we can use B-16 targets, they have a five-inch Bullseye. and run the shoot at fifty yards.
I have to apologize for this, didn't think about the distance as any problem. |
Sounds good to me DaveW. If more can participate at 50 yards then lets do it.
|
Okay! Rules revisions;
Rule #3- 10mm pistols are allowed. Target and Distance amended- targets will be numbered B-16 25 yard slowfire NRA targets with five-inch Bullseye and range will be fifty yards. By Iron-Sights I mean any sight that is not a laser, Red-Dot or Scope or optical sight. Fiber-Optic fronts are fine although I would suggest if used with an Adjustable rear that you sight in with a six O'Clock hold as the FO front may completely cover the Bullseye at fifty yards. |
I'll play. Sounds like fun!

At 50 yds I'd need the official "broad side of a barn" target.
|
I ordered some of those targets to practice some.

I got some card stock and I'm printing targets. PM me with your address if you want in on this and I will send you a target.
|
what the heck, i'm in!
|
I'd love to participate, but my range will not allow pistols on the 100 yard range, and none of the pistol ranges are more than 25 yards. Which really sucks because I have some scoped pistols I want to deer hunt with, but can't practice with them.
I have a place I can do it...at Thanksgiving...too late. |

Got my target today, will be out Monday being its a holiday and getting it done...this is going to be great....
How many have entered? |
Found out my club allows pistols on the long rifle range (max 300 yds).
I still can't hit the barn at 50 yards with my pistol, but I can shoot the lock off with my 308 scoped rifle. |
