Better EDC?

Which do you think is the better choice for EDC: Dan Wesson CCO, Dan Wesson Guardian (45) or Sig P220 Carry SAS Gen 2 SAO?
Thx,
Jim

I'd be partial to the fullsize Wesson. Not a fan of Officer sized pistols. Course, I don't like bobtails, either. Kinda like a girl with one bo*b...I like girls with both :D

zenfly 10-08-2013 10:12 PM

I bought a CBOB in 09.. If I was doing it today I'd pick the Guardian.. I even think after 43 yrs of .45 1911s I'd pick the 9mm for my EDC.

I'd like to find that girl from Total Recall with the three (.)(.)(.)!!!!

OP, I think it will come down to what is more comfortable to EDC for you. Personally, the CCO gets my vote (although I don't own one now).

Carl in GA 10-08-2013 10:30 PM

Of those three, I'd go with the CCO. If you're going to downsize from a Govt model you might as well do it right. It's the grip that will make the gun print during CC, and a compact frame 1911 hides really well.

I carry a 3 inch when i cant carry full size i like it. But i carry a tarus lcp 380 when i cant carry a 3 inch. You know church govt meetings family reunions funerals the nessasry carry occations .

Family reunions funny funny

Any weapon is better than no weapon. I carry a Vbob which DaveW and pig think is broken.

milkmanjoe 10-08-2013 11:12 PM

I like the 4.25 inch barrel only because I, at my weight, find the slightly shorter barrel easier to clear leather. That being said I do also carry full size, I wear a holster that allows more drop, usually under a large fishing shirt. So your body frame counts.....can you easily conceal a full size 1911?
Sure you can....cause the grip is the grip...it's the barrel length in question. Though you might want to try shooting a bobtail 1911...people love 'em and people hate 'em.

If possible try both size guns out a little, try to get a grip on what works for you and your body type for comfort and concealability.

My vote personally is full size. I believe that the shorter the barrel on a 1911 gets the gun has more reliability issues. The shorter barrel 1911's, in many models, went to the bull barrel setup due to reliability issues. I am all about reliability...full size.

BadOscar 10-08-2013 11:28 PM

Those are all nice options Jim. I don't have a P220 but I do have a CBOB and a CCO. It amazes me how much smaller the CCO feels in the holster. I guess of those 2 if I had to pick it would be the CCO.

Pawpaw 10-09-2013 02:29 AM

My Guardian .45 is my EDC.

Roverron 10-09-2013 09:59 AM

My usual EDC is my nighthawk T-3, which has the 4.25 barrel and I also have CT grips on it most of the time.

DaFadda 10-09-2013 09:08 PM

My EDC is a CCO with Esmeralda slim grips. I also have 3", 3.5" compacts and full size governments in both 9 and 45. But I know the CCO hides well and is going to work if it's ever needed. Reliability issues? not in a Dan Wesson.

I like 220's. That said they are fat and heavy. I love my CBOBS. I love my CCO more.

TLE2 10-09-2013 11:40 PM

For me a DW, pricey as they are, would tend to the safe rather than my belt.

Once I actually own one, I may change my mind.

titanse05 10-10-2013 08:52 AM

Well the EDC that I would recommend isn't any of three listed. I carried a CBOB for the first 2 years that I conceal carried and it did the job fine but I was still looking for some improvement. I replaced it with a DW ECO in the spring of this year and I couldn't be happier. The ECO is easier to carry as it is lighter and very grippy out of the box. I even owned a CCO for a year and it stayed in the safe because the chainlink checkering just doesn't provide enough grip IMHO. So the CCO got sold to my uncle and I turned around and bought the ECO for the same amount of money.

I have over 700 rounds thru my ECO and it has been a joy to shoot. It fits in my large hands perfectly and the combination of the checkered front & back straps and the supplied grips work great. It shoots where I point it and is very easy to handle.

Hopefully Jim's new edc is going to be a Guardian in fo-fi.

Hmmmm? Guns are made to be used and should never be shut up in dank dark spaces. What good is it if you don't shoot it? Personally I would rather have a good quality gun on my belt.:D

Nice Chris, I fondled a Guardian today. I really like it. It will be a future purchase for sure.

MPrimo 10-13-2013 05:53 AM

For me it is the CCO all the way. Carry it in a Sparks VM2. Comfortable, accurate, reliable and COOL! I find the reduced grip length a big advantage in concealability.

Although not on the OP's list, I like my ECO.

Jdl2 10-22-2013 05:11 PM

Well guys, with the incredible help I received from Doug Knott I bought a new Guardian (45). Mike picked it up for me in KC and had it shipped to my LGS. I picked it up Sunday and she's beautiful. Doug was amazing the way he put this together so I could have this gun and I just can't thank him enough. Well anyway, THANK YOU DOUG, I love you man:). You're The Bomb.

Doug,
Now you've got me thinking about the Guardian 9mm. Does anyone here have one?
Thanks,
Jim

If the shooter's hands are of average or smaller size, the CCO is outstanding.

If huge mitts are part of the equation, then the Guardian will work very well.

Every single person that handles or shoots my CCO is awestruck by it.

I used to have a P220, but the CCO is dramatically easier to carry, either in a VMII or CrossBreed SuperTuck.
