Guardian Available in .38 Super

Am I the only one just now realizing the Guardian is coming in .38 Super for 2014?

And am I the only one who "gots to have" one?

Caleb 02-12-2014 07:56 AM

I did not know, thanks. I don't know if I "gots yo have one" but, I would like to have one.

NAMVET72 02-12-2014 09:59 AM

How many are they suppose to make?

Clyde

I don't have any details beyond seeing it on the DW-CZ website. On the Guardian page it says, "New for 2014 is a variant in .38 Super."

Why .38 Super? I've never shot one but I don't get the attraction. Is it something to add to the collection or a practical cartridge?

Sheepdog 02-12-2014 08:04 PM

Speed Kills!!!

I know why people are attracted to it, but I never became a fan.

Originally designed in the gangster days to penetrate car doors. They are fast, greater mag capacity and low recoil are some of the pluses. Popular among competitive shooters which has started a rebirth in the popularity of the cartridge.

Sheepdog knoweth of what he speaks. Beats the 9 mighty mice round hands down. Plus, an excuse to buy another 1911.

Cool, thanks for the info!

I don't know if I should start another thread or not, but here goes.
Obviously, the .38 super is faster and has more oomph than a nine. How come it didn't take off commercial wise, but the nine did?
Thoughts?

MPrimo 02-12-2014 09:16 PM

Not real sure why it didn't take off except for the fact that the 45 ACP did and most people who used one in 45 in the service bought them afterward. That said, I am doing my best to help with the rebirth of the Super. I have a 38S Guardian on order ...

Is it worth it to reload for 38 super?

Sheepdog 02-12-2014 10:15 PM

Hi Primo good to see you. I'm doing my part.

If I weren't planning to start reloading, I wouldn't even think about getting into .38 Super. From what I can tell, it looks like factory ammo is expensive and can be hard to find locally.

while I've never even owned one i'd take a 38 super over a 9mm any day of week, as far as ammo goes 38 super sells for about the same price as 45acp so if you can afford to shoot factory 45acp then you can afford the 38 super, and of course it would be cheaper to reload just about anything.

I probably won't be able to get the Dan Wesson any time soon but i'll be getting a RIA in 38 super right after I get my AR 15.

That's the problem. The advantage I've had for the past twenty years and will have for at least another five is that I don't have to buy ammo. I get all my shooting and ammo through work. We actually supply all the major a calibers, except for the .38 super and 10mm.
I have no experience with the .38 super. I would love to shoot one. Can anyone help a brother out? :D

Did Keith give any idea on availability, Clyde? Are they supposed to be out in the wild already?

Over half of the scheduled production is already sold according to Keith. I just placed my pre-order with Dave Severns. He told me he only has a couple of slots left for this gun. They should hit the shelves around May or June.
