1911 Grip Samples
Here are some 1911 grips I made for a client in Texas.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w...DSC00049-2.jpg from left to right: buffalo horn, desert ironwood, spalted hackberry For the same client I made these walnut grips http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w...DSC00051-1.jpg http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w...DSC00082-1.jpg top: mesquite and corian bottom: cocobolo and mesquite Corian Grips http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w.../aDSC01184.jpg http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w.../aDSC01185.jpg http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w.../aDSC01186.jpg |
Micarta Grips

Maroon linen Micarta grips http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/DSC00163.jpg black linen Micarta grips I made these with a slight palm swell so the grain/layers of linen are visible like the grain on a piece of wood. |

1911 Photo Grips
Prototype clear acrylic 1911 grips.
During WWII GIs made clear grips from plexiglass of downed aircraft and placed a photo under the grips. Here's my take on this. http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/c8dd93be.jpg |
Very Cool! For some reason, the desert ironwood has to be one of my favorite woods! The pattern in it is really cool.
Keep up the good work! |
I like the burled desert ironwood, the grain patterns are incredible.

Dave, on the Corian grips what do you use for the shaping of them?
|
The spalted hackberry and mesquite grips look awesome.

Of course I also use a band saw, router, Dremel, a drill press and buffing wheel during the process along with a couple of jigs/fixtures. The Corian takes a lot of final sanding with multiple grades of sand paper and buffing to remove all the deep sanding marks from the belt sander. Corian requires as much final sanding and buffing as the clear acrylic grips to remove all the sanding marks and to make em smooth as glass. I have more Corian grips in progress as well as desert ironwood, mesquite, spalted sycamore and cocobolo. |
Thank you Dave!! I have a buddy that owns a countertop company and I can have all of the scraps but I did not know how to go about working them to the shape of a grip!!!:)

Nice looking grips. Wish I had the nerve to try my hand at wood, but for some reason it scares me.

There are some really beautiful grips in here! Too bad Hi-Caps aren't popular enough to be adopted by the top notch custom grip makers. :(
But I actually have a question, and couldn't find a better thread than this so.. http://img.tapatalk.com/a6f9c4a4-12d0-dea9.jpg Here are VZ Grips' Operator II G10 grips for the Para P14. Can any expert here tell me if these are compatible with a gov. RIA Hi-Cap? Sorry if this post has to be moved..Tapatalk sometimes isn't as easy to use as the desktop forum ♤Sent via Xparent Tapatalk for Android♤ |
I cannot comment on the VZ grips for the P-14 but I can tell you that the P-14 grips from Hogue fit very well on my RIA Wide Body Longslide!!
The grips below are Hogue Pau Ferro Para Ordnance P-14 grips. They actually look better in person than in the picture!! http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...20110811_1.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...20110811_2.jpg |
Thanks Mag.. hopefully it'll be a go..those hogues are great too by the way. But I'm looking for a 2nd set of grips I can swap out. I'll use the rubber for when I'm using my pistol as a hunting sidearm, and the micarta for when she's guarding the nightstand.
I'll let you know what happens :p ♤Sent via Xparent Tapatalk for Android♤ |
