.22 ammo with locations

How is everybody finding .22 ammo these days? Keeping some stock on hand?
I "spot buy", all the time. Box here, box there, never gobble up all the boxes when I do find them on the shelf.
Am wondering what we are seeing across the country in prices and .22 inventory available in stores.

Caleb 07-21-2014 12:52 PM

I have not seen squat in my local wallys and I don't look in the big box stores.

TLE2 07-21-2014 12:58 PM

I used gunbot.net, hardly ever buy local anymore.

Here's the least expensive current listings for 22LR:

I've been picking up some at Walmart here and there. Last week 3 - 225rd Rem golden. Before that 3 Mini-mags. Most of what I am seeing online is pricey and alot of lead round nose, I prefer the plated. Have 4k of M-22 on backorder .

NAMVET72 07-21-2014 01:10 PM

LGS had them 500 rd bricks allowed 4 bricks, so I bought 4 and my lady friend bought me another 4..............

At $23 a brick

So far nobody starving. This is good to know. I keep inventory, due to my kids. Up in SC, with good weather, 1K rounds a day, easily. Three 550 boxes is common, per day. I always need to look for more for them, but I am lucky cause they will do round counting with 9mm, .45 and .308, and pull back to .22 when they shoot their daily self imposed limits.

NAMVET72 07-21-2014 01:35 PM

Joe, pic up all the 22 brass and take it too the local scrap yard and get a few bucks for it..............

Hell no Clyde.....We put down tarps, save every casing, even .22. I'm gonna learn how to reload .22. If it can't be done I'll invent it.

No wonder I can't find any locally! :p

sdmc530 07-21-2014 02:40 PM

If any of you have a Scheels All Sports, kind of a northern midwest store, but they put out .22 every day in the morning. I have gotten some if I go in by the first hour the store is open. Still over priced but its there.

DrHenley 07-21-2014 04:31 PM

The LGS here is a bit more reasonable, $40-$50 per brick depending on brand, and they have piles of it.

Picked this up last week:

I totally agree

That price tag hurts to see....I still have Walmart boxes of the same ammo that I paid $9.99 for. Sure, dinosauers still roamed the Earth and water wasn't invented yet....but I bought some back them.

I know, seems like it wasn't that long ago that .45ACP could be had for $5.00 per box of 50, .223 was $3.00 per box of 20. Luckily back then I bought s..t loads of it , a lot of my friends thought I was crazy. I'm pretty much set for the rest of my life with .22LR, .45ACP,.223, and 00 Buck. If I wanted to sell it I could make out very well, it's staying here.

Grizzman 07-21-2014 05:15 PM

I'm lucky to find anything in a store. When I do, there's generally a 100 round limit.

I've probably got 500-600 rounds right now that I've built up in the last six months. If I were shooting my rimfires with any regularity, I'd be in a sad state.

I guess I'll try online again, or one of the search sites.

Same here!!

I go to the local Wal-Mart when the ammo arrives and somehow all of the 22LR is already gone!!!

Paladin1 07-21-2014 09:24 PM

Shooters in Jacksonville had a good supply of Blazer and Federal Value Packs this past weekend for $40 each.

Otherwise I pick up a box or two at a time from my local range.

I knew I had it absolutely made in the shade 10, maybe 12 years ago. Damn near a truck container of ammo at yesteryear's prices. Then my kids discoveredthat what Daddy was doing(shooting), was fun. Now I fear for my shooting future. :).....I still have .45 ball ammo at $4.45 a box of 50!

I buy slowly now too. In between trips to SC if I buy a box here, a box there, I break even when my kids shoot. I shoot almost exclusively .45 for self defense practice, kinda dropped off plinking(.22) the last few years. I hafta get back. I smell videos on the horizon!

Hey Joe, not specifically reloading, but a very interesting video on the manufacture of .22's. CCI produces 4 million rounds a day

This is what I used to get at Walmart. It was cheaper than the Federal Champion Value Pack and not as consistent. Before the "troubles" I was competing in weekly and monthly rimfire steel matches, going through up to 500 rounds a week. My Kimber conversion slide ran fine with the Federal Champion Value Pack (from Midway) but not with the Walmart Value Pack.
