Saved this guy from a cardboard box!
Found this bouncing around a friends shop. Was a project someone left behind, and never finished. Got ahold of them got the pistol for a fancy show tune, and then had to make the painful choice to refinish it since it had been sand blasted already.
So I present to you my new to me, barely shot DW RZ45 Heritage Graphite Black Cerakote slide, frame, MSH, and spring cap, Stainless Steel Cerakote, on the small parts Raw Stainless Trigger, Hammer, and Barrel Took about 3 hours to get the slide to even move on the gun. The extra 4mil of finish really bound it up, so that should attest to anyone how tight these guns are built. Also front strap checkered at 20LPI by Clark Custom Guns. I have to admit when I asked for them to make it aggressive I didn't expect to get a gun back with a face full of needles, but holy wow...super aggressive. I spent a lil time and knocked the tips down a bit, and now its juuuust right. Thats what you get when you ask for a TRP aggressive front strap I guess. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps856da51d.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps8f51ca7e.jpg |

Wow, that is a great looking pistol! So do you have any before pics? Also how much did the refinishing cost?

:pics: of the range report!

Nice! Enjoy it in good health.

Very well done. Would be nice if you had some "BEFORE" pictures.

Went and shot it today at my local range. Shot great! The original owner lost the roll pin for the front sight but I went and shot it anyway. The front of sight started to drift to the right pretty bad, but the gunsmith and the shop made me a new roll pin, so we are all set now! All in all its fantastic, and the slide to frame fit is great. I unfortunately have to sell it though. I am needing some cash to roll into a different project. So if anyone is interesting I'll take any serious offers. Just shoot me a PM.

The before pics where literally a completely detail stripped, sand blasted pistol in a cardboard box. Kind of sad to be honest. Gal that owned it had high hopes, and then just never got around too it. I showed it to her a few days ago, and shes entertaining the idea of buying it back. As far as refinish goes I got a good deal from a local certified Cerakote guy. Bought him some lunch, and then paid an undisclosed amount which was much less than it should have been to get it done.
If anyone is interested I'm planning on letting it go for around 875 with the original rosewood grips that came on it...they might be cocobolo too...not sure. I'll probably post it up monday if the gun show doesnt treat me well tomorrow and sunday. |
Looks like she went to a good home today. Found a guy looking for a new IDPA gun and would shoot the rails clean off. It was his first DW, and he was beyond stoked. Got what I wanted out of it, and he got an awesome pistol!

Good on you. Nice project, well executed with beautiful results. Even better a quick sale to a good home that will use it well. Congrats.

Rescue guns are some of the best.....
I bought a Colt DE for $400. The gun may not have been rode hard, but definitely put up wet. It had been stored for years in a holster. The finish was all but gone and the slide was pitted. Well done!
I had it refinished and it was awesome. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F...lta_Before.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r.../ColtDEweb.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X.../operator1.jpg |
Beautifully done!
