Small scratches on CBOB!

I've noticed some small scratches on the left side of the slide, close to the muzzle, on my stainless CBOB!
(I discovered how the scratches got there, but I will save that for later)

Is there a way to remove these (light) scratches without changing the look or finish of my beloved CBOB?
I know I could send it out and have it done professionally, but I would rather do it myself.
I don't have an air compressor, but I do have a dremel, fine sandpaper, and that sort of stuff..along with some free time.
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

P.S. I no longer use my JAK-SLIDE holster when wearing bluejeans. My LEVI jeans have little rivet-type things (one on each side of the front pockets)
that will scratch the exposed slide of my gun, as I get-up, sit-down, and whatever, during the coarse of any given day. If you have this type of belt-slide-over the waist-minimalist holster..I bet you're checking out the pockets of your jeans, and the slides of your guns right now. Right?

Here's what was passed onto to me to remove rust and scratches...

Go to the hardware store and get yourself some 0000 steel wool. Use that in combination with some good penetrating oil, ie.. Kroil, CorrosionX, etc...

Rub with the grain of the metal.

Good luck.

The way the light is hitting it makes it look like it's dented but it is not.

Thank You,
Now, I read somewhere that you should not use steelwool on stainless steel.
Anyone know for sure?

You might also try some Flitz......

That's a good idea.
I have some FLITZ and trying a little of it 1st, might just let me know how bad these scratches really are.
I'll post the results in the morning.

Ooooooh, you're a lefty. There's your problem right there:D:D

If you can find scotch brite pads in their finest grade (I don't know what that would be), they would be a good consideration instead of the steel wool. I have used them on my dad's model 66.

Good luck

that is what I heard also. it is possible for particles of the steel wool to imbed in the stainless.....and then they rust.

Scotchbrite pads are what I heard to use. Auto body supply places and maybe hardware stores should have different grits.

The 0000 Steel Wool that I spoke of earlier was recommended by Dave and others here....it's really, really fine..almost like cotton! Using it along with a good lubricant/oil shouldn't be a problem.

The Flitz idea and a Scrotchbrite pad will work also. Good luck. Keep us posted!

I used Scotchbrite maroon (#7447) to remove an idiot mark from my Springfield Stainless GI. It worked perfectly with on hassle and no trace. Be sure to go with the grain and slowly.

The use of the green Scotchbrite pads found in the stores is not recommended as it is too coarse. The maroon stuff can be found at body shops or online.

I will try the Scotch-bright next..the FLITZ helped, but not enough.
BTW I'm not a lefty..belt goes thru the front of this holster, holding the gun close..for better concealment. Holster and gun stay outside of pants.
I still use it when I'm not wearing jeans.
I have some very fine steel wool and plenty of lubricants..If Dave says it's OK, it's fine with me.Clyde

Field-stripped her, gave her a 600-grit massage, and FLITZED her again.
Noticed some other little nicks she acquired over time and use, but she's not a SAFE-QUEEN. The scratches I was concerned about are virtually gone, as you can see. (compare to the first pics I posted)
I thank you (my COTEP brothers) for your helpful suggestions.

Looks like that worked out well!

not to be contrary but, would someone please explain to me how steel wool, especially 0000, which is very soft, would embed itself in SS which is actually harder. I mean, you guys do clean off a gun after you do something like this, don't you?
Dave

It's just something I've heard. Could just be an old wives tale..

I heard the same thing.

Microscopic voids in the metal will collect the iron molecules from the steel wool???

Sounds good.:)
