Dan Wesson Guardian 38 Super

Anyone here own or have experience with the DW Guardian? In 38 Super? Care to share? Thanks. Dennis

As a matter of fact, I have one. Here she is:

Grrr....I'll post another right side up.

She was a great handgun right outta the box, both reliable and accurate. I like the Bobtail frame for EDC. She eats all the different ammo I've fed her no matter which company or bullet type. The fit and finish was spot on and I really like the Duty Treatment which holds up to use as advertised. She's a big hit at the range as most folks there have never shot .38 Super (or even a Wesson) before so she usually gets passed around. Have yet to have anyone unhappy with her performance. I purchase almost all my ammo online at GunBot....great selection at great prices, delivered right to my doorstep. Unlike what you often hear, ammo for it is neither hard to get or expensive (except, of course, for the typical match ammo brands).

Only made two mods. One was more grips but not because the factory grips were ugly or bad in the grip department but because I'm a grip guy who can't resist buying them. Bought a pair of VZs that were a little more grippy just in case I needed that and a pair of Esmeraldas cocobolo DDs because I love her cocobolos. Those are the grips that you see in the pict. The other is the replacement of the factory trigger. I have very short fingers so I replaced it with a Harrison Custom IonBond short trigger (also in the picture). It worked as advertised and I'm quite happy with it. As a matter of fact, I replaced all the factory triggers on all 12 1911s I own in my collection. 8 have the Harrison short triggers and 4 have the Dawson Custom short, flat trigger. These are on my competition guns so that finger placement on the face of the trigger is just one less thing to worry about. I do like the the short, curved triggers better, however, in terms of looks.

Rick, Thanks for the appraisal. This fall I traded a brand new unfired SS Wilson Combat Compact CQB in 9MM that just didn't fit my large hands for A full size SS Wilson Combat CQB fired but like new in 38 Super. The 38 Super was everything I had hoped and is a favorite cartridge. I have bumped into a couple of great deals on a new DW Guardian in .38 Super and I am on the fence torn between the above and a Les Baer Comanche in 38 Super. There is about a $600 difference in cost. I have owned Baers in the past and had no problem but Mr. Baer's attitude regarding his 100% satisfaction warrantee gives me pause. It is nice that he is proud of his product but telling customers to pound salt does not inspire confidence with me..Should I have a problem I want the person who made the gun to care that I am concerned.

I totally relate, Dennis. I, too, own a Baer, a Commanche HW Monolith. And, yes, Les definitely has an attitude. I really like his guns but he gets stubborn about my Mono having a, GASP, reverse crown, I just don't get it. Oh well. By the way, I went and had that crown done anyway. Don't tell Les.

While I wouldn't be adverse to owning a Commanche HW Monolith in .38 Super the price difference between that and the Wesson IS significant. Add to that the Wesson is a top notch gun in its own right swayed me in that direction and I must say that I'm not sorry with my choice.

That's a tough choice you must make and I wish you the best in making that decision.
Rick

I've never had to deal with him but I've noticed one thing about Less, for the most part the people who comment on him seem to of had a 'not so positive' experience with him, especially if they've experienced problems with one of his pistols.

DENNIS! I was cruising along, content and happy, minding my own business and you had to bring up a 38 Super Guardian. My addiction is rearing it's ugly head. Thanks!:D
