The logic on this morning's TV debate was that non immunized kids could spread the disease or virus. OK, fair enough, but they can only spread it to other kids whose parents chose to not immunize. So the only sick kids would be the ones whose parents said no to the needle. I'm OK with that. My kids are immunized, they would be fine. Oh, and that whole autism argument... it's BS....my wife is a pharmacist and a chemist...she understands the science not the television hype...our kids get shots.

I was this morning having an internal debate on this... I'm totally divided. I get the constitutional state rights debate, but it is also the state who runs with the cost of facing epidemics... We definitely don't live in an island. I guess it is and will be a centuries old debate, how much the government/society has to intervene in personal lives.

But at the end, I'm with Joe on this.
Yup. I don't need any law to get tenths of vaccinations for my dog when the law only requests one. My kid gets all the shots (when the risk is balanced to the benefits). You just have to educate yourself. But that's not the average person. The average person would almost belief that autism is a new conditions and ADHD an invented thing to sell drugs. Both have existed forever. It's the drugs/diagnoses what is in the hype.

It isn't just kids whose parents choose not to immunize who are at risk. There are kids who for medical reasons cannot receive certain vaccines. Their risk of infection is increased if a greater percentage of the (kid) population chooses not to vaccinate. There is also risk to babies who are too young to have received the full course of the vaccines, and are therefore still at risk of infection from these "chooser" kids.

By way of example, the measles vaccine is not recommended until the age of 12 months. Where do kids whose parents choose not to vaccinate run when their little darling is ill? To the pediatrician. Who else is in the waiting room? Tiny little tykes who've not yet had all their vaccinations. It can be a big problem.

I understand the individual/parent's right argument. But, choosing not to vaccinate your kid is borne of ignorance. IMHO (feel free to disagree) these parents are typically selfish, me-first and-to-heck-with-the-rest-O'you types as well.

That's why I said I'm divided. Yes, I don't like the interference in everything, but choosing to live in a crowded diverse country has its price. The same way laws have to evolve to catch up with modern society, this is one of those Danm if you do, Danm if you don't cases for government.

IMHO failure to immunize is a failure of parental responsibility.

Immunization works best when ALL are immunized. It doesn't give the "bug" a chance to mutate. The holdouts put all at risk.
