Vietnam Vet dies because of Sepis at Ok VA

Quote:

A Vietnam Veteran died on October 3rd at Talihina Veteran’s Center in Oklahoma from an infection known as sepsis. But it was also noted that the patient had maggots crawling in the wound. Four people have resigned in the wake of the investigation – one physician’s assistant, and 3 nurses (one of which was the Director of Nursing).

Owen Reese Peterson, 73, an Army Vietnam veteran, died at the facility after having an infection that turned into sepsis. Sepsis is life-threatening inflammation which can cause damage to the internal organs. He had only been there for a few weeks. The maggots were reportedly there while he was alive, but no one apparently did what they were supposed to do.
God damn shame is all I can say. RIP Mr. Peterson.

Sitting here just shaking my head, how could the VA let this happen. Dealt with the VA with my Uncle who was a Korean Vet, they were absolutely terrible !! So thankful I don't have to deal with them and I feel for the one's who do.

Sad thing is four involved could not be fired without going through the Union. Thankfully they went ahead and quit. Public sector employees should not be allowed to unionize

OMG...speachless, very sad indeed.

I take it the maggots were not therapeutic? It is a shame that our vets get such poor care. But eliminating the VA hospitals is not popular with, at least, some vets.

One good story, now one bad one.

Much agreed, and I am a public sector employee till next summer. I'm not a member of any union, though!

Union, or not, the simple truth is that what the VA did to, and put that Gentleman and his family through, is just flat out criminal !!
