A young man decided he'd surprise his fiancee by proposing marriage in a rather unique way.
He staged a police stop at a gas station in Mobile, Ala. And the Mobile PD was in on it.

It might have seemed amusing at the time, but I'm nominating this one for a Darwin award.
The last thing we need are any misunderstandings regarding LE actions with African Americans.

I like it...at least the guys goal. Not necessarily smart.

So, how was it dumb? The fiance' and the police where in on it together. Unloaded tasers, etc. I think it was brilliant. What a great way to show everyone that the everyone can get along.

I applaud the actions of the biker. That was cool.

I am on the fence of this because the public was not knowing what was going on and that would have been the wild card. Another individual getting into the act not knowing. I am actually really surprised the PD would even partake in this right now.
Nobody knew the tasers were empty, the public doesn't know what is going on. If they don't see the news or hear the story just another black man being pursued by the police. I hope the PD did a great campaign showing their part of this and showing the good of the story.

I like the idea getting the police involved but not in this manner. I think they could have done something besides a "chase". I really like the community proposal but in this case not a huge fan I guess.

Precisely my point in nominating this one for a Darwin Award. This could have gone sideways in a hurry.

I agree about questioning the LE participation, especially since there was a similar episode in NYC a while back and those NYC LEOs are facing disciplinary action for it.

Because anyone on the scene that *wasn't* in on it, might have reacted "incorrectly." Maybe they might have produced "real" firearms and started shooting. That, or it could have been misinterpreted by the MSM as "BLM" fodder, etc. :eek:

So please explain to me how "anyone" as you put it could've acted incorrectly? When it is a set up between both parties, I find it really hard to see how "someone" might react incorrectly. Maybe if a second unit showed up on scene, then it's possible.

Who do you mean "they"? The cops or the bikers? Again it was staged, the cops had unloaded tasers.

I guess there's the remote possibility that the biker could've staged the whole thing to ambush the cops, but that was not the case, thank God.

Where there other ways this man could've proposed, why sure, but I see it as a young black man taking his wedding proposal to another level and involving the police to show that the 2 communities CAN work together for a greater good.

There were also a lot of bystanders... other patrons of the gas station, people in the shop, etc. etc. I doubt they were *all* "in on it." If any of them thought it was the "real deal," bad things could have happened. They could have "interfered" with the stop and started a huge powder keg, etc. etc. etc.

I would think the cops would have vetted the scene ahead of time. They wouldn't be able to clear all the bystanders out, though.

It could certainly be seen that way. But given the recent issues, etc between LE and BLM and the general tension between the two general communities, I think anything depicting a black citizen being stopped by police, even for the intended purpose, is not the best "visual" to be out in the MSM. It's a JDLR.

I thought it was a good move. She said yes, right? There wasn't a chase if I understand this correctly, just him getting pulled over and then some staged tense minutes.
