This article trumps all those I have posted about Florida. I shall not post Florida stories for quite awhile.

Why on earth would you leave your guns in your car overnight? A Jeep no less, one of the least securable vehicles on earth!

I seriously hope the owner of the guns gets arrested for being an ignorant gun owner responsible for upcoming crimes.

Sounds like my range bag before a range trip. However my bag isn't in my car till I am leaving, then it is the first thing out when I get home. I live in a nice neighborhood and I would never leave even one gun in the car overnight.

I ain't gonna crucify someone for leaving their personal property in their personal vehicle, and some asshat breaks in and steals it. Although leaving guns in a Jeep is pushing it. Cops have guns stolen from vehicles frequently. I leave an AR and pistol in my truck at work every day. Leave a coach gun in there overnight, out here in the scrub

Oh I get your point. But like Charlie said, "guns go in the car when it's time to leave and guns get taken out upon return to home". No excuse to leave leave a bag of guns in your rig over night while parked on the street. NO EXCUSE.

As far as the cops go, well....they should know better also. I guess sometimes they figure it won't happen to them.

If you're going to store guns in your vehicles, they make locks and vehicle safes so that they don't get stolen. Leaving a range bag or a back pack with guns in your vehicle is just asinine and irresponsible.

I don't think any one state has "cornered the market" on stupidity. There are good and bad in all of them.

I agree, I would never leave "inventory" in a car, overnight, no matter how secure. There are times when I'll pack the car for the range, but I have to make a stop or two either before or after the range visit, but I ensure they are completely covered under a furniture blanket and out of sight. And, they are unloaded and locked in cases. The ammo as well.

Sometimes, I'll pack the car the night before the range visit, but the car stays inside my garage, door closed (of course), in that case.

Hell, it makes me uneasy just thinking about having to make that call to the Police to report that a bag of Pistols (or whatever), with ammo, etc. that had been sitting in my car, unattended, was stolen, and to know that they'll probably end up on the streets in the 'wrong' hands. :facepalm:

The article didn't say, but I wonder if the car may have been "targeted" (i.e. someone saw the owner put the duffel bag full of guns in the car), or was it just a random hit. It will be interesting to see whether or not the thief tries to get rid of them, they being "traceable," theoretically.

Last in and first out....that's my Range day policy. Would never leave a bag overnight filled with guns and ammo. Now if I was keeping a truck gun in there, it would certainly be out of view under the seat or camo'd somehow. What a dumbass.

Auto break ins are on the rise here in California ever since they passed a law stating that any petty theft under $950 is now only a misdemeanor. So "smash and grabs" are skyrocketing, especially in tourist areas like San Francisco.
