Delta Flight 431/302
Kudos to Delta Airlines.
As Irma was bearing down on Puerto Rico, and people were desperately attempting to leave the island, there were four flights inbound. Two JetBlue, one American, and one Delta. As the two JetBlue flights and the American Flight turned around, Delta Flight 431 flew on, almost right into into the teeth of Irma, and landed at SJU airport in San Juan. They executed a 52 minute turnaround and Delta Flight 302 took off from inside the outer bands of Irma, carrying a plane load of passengers to safety. That was the last flight out of Puerto Rico. https://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...ins/639648001/ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DJDml8eWAAAvFuM.jpg http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=888 |
Buy that pilot a beverage and give him a weeks paid vacation!
I won't criticize the others for turning back. That being said heros are sometimes just seconds away from being the goat and making the right call is priceless! |

Pilots do stuff like this all summer long. As long as you can see what 's out there all you have to do is zigzag around it.
Who knows ...they may have been above all that color. |
