POLL: New vs. Custom

Just a little poll to see what you guys think. Would you rather spend your money on a new firearm or send out an old dog to get customized/refinished?

Why did you choose the way you did?

i picked a new gun because i dont like refinishing guns that i have “broke in”. I like the gun with wear and maybe beat up because its a use loved gun. If i have a gun that functions well but is very warn i would do nothing with it besides shoot it more. just me though. I would refinish a weapon if it needed a complete overhaul though.

Depends on the gun, what your planning on doing with it, and what its value is.

I would not refinish or modify a collector grade gun unless it was to stop further deterioration.

If you are looking to make a target pistol or a long distance rifle, a new gun will get you much closer, and probably much cheaper than modifying an older gun.

I voted new gun because that’s been my behavior. I’m now considering, maybe, some custom work on one 1911.

I voted new gun because you said customize. I would have voted refinish if it were broken or non functioning and was a long time favorite. However in my experience it usually costs more and the results are never exactly what you want when you are customizing an old gun to make it perform a new job. Find a new one that fits the bill without costly modifications that may never make it what you want.

I voted for a new gun because:

"I'm just a peckerhead who lives in the hills with too many guns"
NOT!

Truth is, as I get older... I am willing to hold out for eactly what I want, and have no problem buying used or new....or even refinishing... as long as its what I want.

When I find a new one I want I sell or trade an older one. Its called new fun with old money. I sold three this year and traded three others aaannnndddd I have replaced all six already without spending any new money other than transfer fees and background checks on the first five. The sixth is still on me as I haven't decided what I will part with yet to pay for it. Possibly one of the new. I know I like the way they look but they do not stay unless they shoot better than I do. I am a crow. I like shiny new objects that are superior performers. Dennis

I've two "project guns" as such. The rest I planned to keep stock, but ended up changing out things on most. The Sig Ultra (see animated GIF below) was perfection just like they made it. No urge whatsoever to change anything.

So, "All of the above" ?

I don't really know how to answer...
