My 14 year old had an “intruder drill” the other day. They were told to hide in an area where you can’t see the window in the door. I asked what she grabbed on the way to hiding. She wasn’t sure what I meant. I said if you ever need to hide like that, grab something on the way, fire extinguisher, stapler, other objects and use them to fight like crazy. Similar to what I said when you asking about anyone trying to snatch her off the street. Yell, scream, hit them with her backpack, scooter or anything else available. Never give up the fight.

Yes might sound crazy, but it is called protect yourself if you can.


Because not knocking all LEOs or school security but the ones for that school sucked. Stand outside and hide. It could have been their kids in that school. Then how would they feel.

A bucket of rocks would be as a last resort for the kids. Better security should be in place to keep it from getting to that point. Yes schools should not feel like a jail, and I get the whole “Books not Bullets” desire to be educated in an unthreatening environment but the fight is being brought to them. They may need to grow up a little faster than they should but at least they will grow up.
