Michael's Weekly Stupid Question
My stupid Question:
Ok.... if you own a 1911, one day you WILL lose or strip a grip screw. I believe that it's "a given." I would like to purchase (maybe) a box (100 pcs) each of Govt., Officer, standard and slim, SS and Blue screws and bushings. Guess what? I can't find a manufacturer. There has GOT to be someone out there that Wilson, LB, DW, Colt, Sig, SA, STI, RIA, and all the others... are buying from. It just doesn't make sense for a company like Wilson to make their own (I worked on Screw Machines as a young man.) The standard sizing is: Screw: .150-50 Dia/thread per inch. Bushing is a .236-60 OD, .150-50 ID So... stupid question: Who actually produces these items? And can they be purchased in bulk? DaFadda |

Michael,
cowboy Ed Brown has "bulk packs" of 24 at: http://www.edbrown.com/gripscrews.htm Brownells has "bulk packs" of 48 at http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=3...831004_d_10571 I ran a Copernic search and found nobody offering bulk packs of 100 to us mere mortals. :hail::hail::hail: Best wishes, Joe |
Exactly Majo... What if I wanted to buy in bulk and then resell to "us mere mortals" or give them away to people like Clyde who always seem to lose theirs.... (hey Clyde... at least I didn't say "who has a screw loose!) lol... Just wonderin......

Frankly, I'm not sure that I would want 100 of any one style. I think one of the few inexpensive ways to "customize" a 1911 is to change the grip screw around. VZ has spiffy screws: http://vzgrips.com/hardware/screws-and-bushings
There seems to be a significant variety. I am currently waiting for my Longslide to come back from Robar. They buggered up the allen screw hole on one of the grip screws and they are ordering a matching screw and then they will NP3 Plus the screw and send the gun back to me, at their expense. Quite a bit of expense for one little screw, but Robar is a quality company. Have fun. :D |

Actually.... the vision in my mind is the member (and I don't remember his name) whose wife threw out the paper towel containing all the pins and screws to his detail stripped 1911. I remember someone on the board asking for ANY extra parts. This was when I was first invited to join.

I can't imagine a better excuse for buying a new 1911, than the wife throwing the old one (in pieces) out. ;) I would at least try it once. :D Joe |
