First Remington and now...gasp....Ruger
I can't say that either of these offerings elicits much more than a yawn from me. Johny come lately is all they are in my view. Slapped together for the mass market with no real significant pluses of any kind to distinguish them from say the tried and true decent budget 1911s from Armscor. (Note that I didn't mention the cheap Taurus as I don't consider them worthy of any consideration for any number of reasons not worth going into here.)
Now I will admit my bias here.... first against Remington who, back in the days when the 5 MBA suits owned the company, told me that 3 MOA for their Varmint rifles was "good enough" despite the chamber on my 700V being outside of SAMMI specs and having 0.090" over overbore. HA! These were the same mental midgets who deemed the XP100 a niche gun and had it dropped from their line. Dealer took it back angrier than I was at Remington. Haven't bought jack from them since. Then there's Bill Ruger, champion of the 10 round max capacity handgun magazine. Great when a gun company CEO goes tits up and touts gun control measures for the masses. He lost me and a good number of my friends as customers with that bit of brilliance. So no love lost on either of these firms and their new 1911 offerings. Can you say PASS? |
So Bald1 did you get to Shoot or handle a Remington R1 or was it the RI Enhanced?
Clyde |
Clyde,
No interest in doing so from me when the same kind of money can get me someone else's slabsides that on paper seem to offer more. But like I said, I am biased against both Remington and Ruger. Plenty of decent alternatives in today's marketplace. |
It is Okay, I got and R1 OTD on Saturday for $549.00........
Now have the Money to buy another 1911, so what do you think of the S70's????????????????? Clyde |
Clyde, I have an R1 and it is decent for the money.
S70 Colt re-issue it probably one of my next two purchases. I have 4 DWs and at least twice that in ponies. |
Hey Army 1911, I will give you two Bits for one of your Colts........

I'd be interested in looking at one when they come out .
but figure it's just another "value" price point entry level 1911 in an already crowded market place Rock Island has filled that niche nicely for "me" If Ruger puts it out there in the $400 price point, I'll take a serious look at it. If it's in the $500-$600 range, probably not ..L.T.A. |
The Ruger has a MRSP of *GASP* $940. Like I said.... PASS!

:eek: Holy mackerel Andy !! That's a shocker i can't wait to see one now . It would have to be something pretty special at that price point to get me off Springfield or Colt ..l.T.A. |
Clyde, you need to add an older Colt Delta Elite to your collection!!:):)
An old one not the new ones. |
