New Serial Number Structure for DW as of 2013

I just purchased a Dan Wesson Specialist that was manufactured in June of this year.

There is a new serial number structure for all DW firearms.

The serial number is now a seven (7) digit number. "yynnnnn"

The first two (2) digits are the year of manufacture. This year they are "13".

The last 5 digits are the sequential number of the firearm (of all models) manufactured that year. There is no longer going to be an individual serial issued by model.

With the re-opening of DW's manufacturing in April after the fire, my Specialist is in the 13002xx sn range.

Several posts have appeared here and on the 1911 forums listing purchase of new Specialists. Looks like a batch were manufactured together.

It will be interesting to see batching of other models if this occurs.

This is cool, I like that they are going back to putting the mfg year in the serial number. Sometimes different years have different features so it makes it easier if you are looking for a specific year of a pistol. Thanks for the info.

Allow Me to add: The serial # also says the number of the pistol made in the year. Say it is 1300045, that means it's the 45th Pistol made in 2013.
How do I know? "K.L." told me.:)
