1942 Chinese Mosin Face Lift
I bought a 1942 Chinese Mosin Nagant with some ugly beat up stock. The action is nice and the bore is somewhat dark but clean and decent. So, I decided to play around with it and see what turns out. First, I tore it apart and gave it a good cleaning and removed all the cosmo and gunk buildup. Then, I removed the front and rear sights and filled in the pin slots in the barrel. I sent the bolt out to Max Sheapard for his custom bolt bending and polish job, he also threw in a pull ring. His work is top notch and reasonable. I went ahead and purchased a Boyd's Thumbhole Stock in a grey/black laminate and fitted it to the action. I also free floated the barrel but, have not bedded the action yet. Then, I went ahead and drilled and tapped the receiver for an ATI base mount. A Redfeild 3x9x42 scope rides atop the rifle and is sighted in for 100yd zero. I still have to finish the metal with either Cerakote or Duracoat gun finishes, have not decided yet. It shoots great but, I have to find the load it likes the best. So far I have gotten 1.5" groups at 100yds with higher grained new manufactured brass loads. I think I can get it closer to 1" if I find the right combination.
Enough talk, here are some pics. Tell me what you think so far. http://i.imgur.com/VU8nlq7.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/46hbFcp.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/BMqDMgN.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/GGEXqdb.jpg?2 http://i.imgur.com/DLeLRZa.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/EkHNyra.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/stLZkGQ.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/XPxLs4l.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/hEUP8f3.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/OojxtBI.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/uHlNGeK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/69fR6Id.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/0RFHYv1.jpg?1 Sorry for the crappy cell pictures, one day I will get a real camera. |
