Eventful Day at the Range

The two in the center were in the mag, the one on the left was not involved.

You my friend are a lucky man and should count your blessings. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. May this be your one and only bad reloading story....

I still don't believe it's a double-charge, I think we're probably looking at a case-failure here. Look at where it failed, in the groove. While you do have a case split further up, I believe that to be a secondary effect. That is right at the web of the case. It should be strongest at that point.

how many times have you reloaded that case Scott? And, what headstamp is it?

Once fired Winchester.

Wow that's terrifying... I hope you are safe and unhurt. Did it damage anything besides the mag? And a pair of under shorts?

Dave, the crimp measured around .468.

douglas_knott 09-04-2011 09:59 PM

What was your load data?

Mike45 09-04-2011 10:14 PM

First I am glad you are OK.

My nephew's stepson had a number of these 40 S&W's in a 50 round box of reloads he purchased locally here in Houston.

I for one do not like to shoot reloads.

Damn.... That must have scared the $#!t out of you. I hope you didn't get hurt and that your weapon is okay.
