Tornado Recovery
I don't know if this is appropriate, if not please forgive me.
My mom is retired and lives in Mississippi in the middle of all the tornados that happened yesterday. Her husband is fighting cancer, so she has been doing most of the yard work. Last night the tornados went through their neighborhood. There were lots of trees down. Their fence got ripped down. One big tree was lifted up and carried several hundred feet to land on their roof. She was fretting about how they were going to get the tree off the roof. The insurance company said they would repair the roof, but she would have to get it off first I was looking into going back home to help but I live a full days drive away. About an hour after I talked to her, a friend from her church showed up. He and his brothers own a timber management company. They had all the tools. A few hours later, they had the tree off the roof and cut up into firewood. They cleared the drainage ditch of the fallen trees and repaired the roof, so it won't leak. Tomorrow, they are coming back with shingles and finishing the repairs. It's the kind of karma thing that makes me proud of my friends and knowing that there are people who will show up unasked and help out and put you to right without a care of being reimbursed. Just wanted to share. Also if anybody wants some free firewood in the Northeast Mississippi, West Alabama area, let me know. |
sorry to hear about your family troubles and this disaster. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.I'm glad everybody is alright from the storms.we are all like a family here so if you need anything don't be afraid to ask

Edgehill, sorry for their troubles, but it sure does the heart good when people come together like that.
I was on a Red Cross Disaster Action team in Jackson, and I can tell you story after story about how Mississippians take care of each other, even in Jackson. People would just show up out of nowhere and take care of things. Our job was often reduced to picking up food and coffee from the businesses donating it and distributing it to the crowds of volunteers out doing all the real relief work. No matter where I reside, Mississippi will always be home. |
Prayers for your family and all others involved..

Happy your family is safe......and the rest is a bonus of good people coming together in time of need.

Thanks guys.

That's what happens with "people of faith." They don't ask for anything in return, they just "do." Amen! One question: What's the name of the church that mom goes to?
