TAC Compact Ejection Port
RIA TAC Compact - Had a seemingly minor issue at the range with the brass being ejected forward. Normally not a big deal but I was at an indoor range and I could not retrieve most of the brass.
I got to looking at the ejector to see what was different about it. It looked the same length and shape as my Sig Ultra, which ejects normally. I was able to retrieve a few cases and got to looking at them and they have a nasty dent. http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=818 So I got to looking at the ejection port and comparing it to my Sig Ultra: http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=819 http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=820 The flaring is radically different on the two pistols. I have to think this has something to do with the ejection anomaly. Apparently the brass is hitting a sharp corner and instead of rolling off of it, it is rebounding forward - probably because the corner is cutting so deep into the brass. It's not just a dent, it's cutting into the brass, making it unsuitable to reload. Normally I would get out the dremel and start smoothing out the corners, but this gun is Parkerized. Any words of advise? |
This may be a good place to start. I have found it very helpful.

I put a hundred rounds though it this afternoon to see if I could detect brass smears on the edges. Here is what it looks like:
http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=821 That confirms my suspicion that the ejection port is flared in the wrong place! The Sig Ultra is flared right where the case is hitting the ejection port on the RIA. Will RIA help me with this or am I going to have to get out the dremel myself? |
Send a PM to Auto mag and see what he says.

Just looking at some of mine. I still think the extractor is the culprit. The reason the Sig is cut like that is because of the external extractor. Maybe Dave will be along and have some ideas.

looks sharp on the upper edge to me...looks like that's where the brass is hitting. Is it a new pistol?

PM John, then call customer service. May be an incorrect flare, however with a compact, may be as easy to fix as changing the recoil spring due to timing

John?
