Small and large pistol primer .45 brass
 

I have collected a lot or .45 brass over the years but never reloaded it till a year or so ago. I have some 230gr Ball that I pulled from some cartridges that the primers were all bad. I also have some LRN that I sat a while ago so I decided to load up some .45. While priming I found out that while most .45 is large pistol, there is some out there that looks like small pistol. What are the differences aside from the size? After the last drought of components I as thinking it may come in handy to have .45 brass for both primer types. Aside from that I can't think of a reason to have both. I would love to hear some input from the reloaders here. Thanks!

I only reload large primer in 45, because it is easy to forget that you have both if you have large quantities of brass, IMHO save them and trade them....

I sort out the small primer brass. I do not reload it. Someday I may or trade to someone that reloads it. I hate the stuff! Slows down the Dillon when reloading.

A while back the only primers I could find were small pistol magnum. I cherished those small primered 45 ACP cases!

Get both, it is all gonna dry up again.

I think you will find that mostly all new Federal and Blazer is small primer. Winchester is still large primer unless it is the expensive non toxic rounds. This is partially why I keep inventory of small and large primers.

Not a lick.....they are equal perfomers. Save it for the future. I save it untill I get a large quantity and trade it for large primer.

For me, all small primer brass goes in the recycling can, which I sell at almost2 bucks a lb.
