Interesting, the Silver Back has "Duty Coat". I Thought they did away with that. I'll pass on painted guns.

I don't believe that it is a painted on finish. It is their Duty Coat Nitride treatment. Same coating they have been using for years.

Duty Coat is essentially the same thing as Cerakote - a polymer / ceramic SURFACE COATING that is painted onto a gun and then baked.

Duty Treatment and Hard Hat Treatment are the same type of process as Tenifer, Melonite, etc. that is - Ferritic nitro carburizing . That IS NOT a surface coating. It is part of the metal and the treatment penetrates and hardens the surface of the metal.

Someone correct me here if needed, but I believe? DW switched over to the Duty Treatment sometime in 2010.

You are Exactly Right! The Duty "Treatment" is part of the Metal and yes, Dan Wesson started doing it in 2009-2010, they continue doing it and as far as I know will always do it on those guns. NOT a Paint & Bake like Wilson, Baer, Brown, and others. VERY Tough Finish! Nearly un-scratchable!

I love the Duty Coat on my ECO. It is awesome.
