Since the mid 1990s I have a cheap set of Chicago Cutlery, that I bought at KMart in Northern Virginia. I think that I paid around $29 for the set and block.
They still take and keep an edge. I sharpen them occasionally and soak the handles (walnut) in olive oil. I don't imagine that I will be buying any $3000 sets off Amazon.
