We had Glocks as issue weapons. There were instances when slides flew off during training, coatings peeling off due to certain solvents being used which caused malfunctions. Glock came down and replaced the pistols immediately (great customer service) and in so many words asked that we refrain from "getting the word out" about the issues. I'm glad that the flying slides etc., happened during training and not in an actual situation. I've never had an issue with the 1911 platform, or even the Ruger P90 which is ugly, but works reliably. I personally am not a fan of the (plastic piece of sh!t) Glock

. I know the majority of police departments are equipped with Glocks, but that's because Glock made a deal swapping out the old department weapons one for one, basically for free. With the budget constraints the police departments had, they jumped on the deal, not because they were the better gun, but because they were free.
