I may not have "tactical driving skills" taught by a trained professional, but i have common sense and situational awareness when driving.

* I don't drive with tunnel vision, my eyes are always scanning the roadway and surrounding areas. My wife thinks I have ADD because I can drive and look at other things, but I tell her that it's better to drive knowing what's around you than to just focus on the car in front of you.

* At stop lights or stop signs, I leave myself plenty of room from the car in front of me, "an out" if you will in case someone approaches on foot or purposely get bumped from a bad guy from behind.

* I don't go into unfamiliar territories at the wrong hours. If I do have to go into these places, I google surrounding areas so that I have a better idea of the over all area in case I need to make a quick exit.

Bottom line:

* Don't allow yourself to get into bad situations and pay attention. Those two things will prevent most bad things from happening.
