Man.... this brings back memories of public high school in the PRNJ.
We were required to salute the US Flag every school day via reciting the "Pledge of Allegiance" in Homeroom, all the way thru 12th grade. There was a huge stink made by a lot of the "liberal thinking" students of the time... freedom of speech, etc. The school, while recognizing that no one could be "forced" to place rt. hand over heart and recite the pledge, did require every one, at least, to stand at attention. The libtards even balked at that, as it was still a "authoritarian requirement." Their argument, "if one truly has 'freedom of speech,' etc. then the 'authority' can't require us to do anything." The "authority" counters with, "doing anything other than 'standing at attention' is impolite and disrespectful to those who are loyal to the flag and wish to salute it properly."
I recall there being quite a few scraps between some students and the homeroom teacher.
