Hello the camp.
It's been a while since I've posted, and I thought I should show off my Battle Rifle. I also have an AR, but wanted something that could turn cover into concealment.
Enough preamble, here are a few photos and then a bit about the rifle.
The rifle as received.
With the retractable stock.
A close up of the steel lower and wood hand grip.
And an overall shot with the steel lower and wood hand grip.
Now for a few details. This is a PTR-91 Classic and is an American made HK-91 clone. PTR makes these on tooling purchased from an HK licensed facility which was closed down.
The PTR-91 is chambered in .308WIN/7.62x51mm NATO and uses G3 magazines. I can purchase new in wrapper/near new mags for $1.79 each (if I purchase 100 mags)
The lower that the rifle comes with is a US made version of the later Navy composite lower. I've replaced the Navy lower with a clipped and pinned steel lower and a custom wood hand grip.
So far, function has been flawless and the recoil is less than anticipated. The brass (when I can find it) is very much reloadable. Accuracy is not too bad, 2.5 to 3 inch, five shot groups at 50 yards. This is standing, unsupported. When I get a chance, I'll get out the benchrest and see what it (and I) can do at 100 yards.
I'm considering adding a paddle mag release and I plan to refinish the stock and hand guard to more closely match the hand grip.
I'll be sure to update this thread if anyone is interested.
