I will stand for the National Anthem and salute the flag. Life in the USA might be hard for some, right now, but it's a whole lot harder elsewhere. I've seen it. Even with the recent economic difficulties, I still think the USA has the best standard of living around and the best opportunities for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Only Switzerland comes close, but no cigar.

Anyway, Kapernick deserves whatever is coming to him.

I hat to tell my peewee team not to kneel, they are 5 6 and 7 year olds. they are too young to know anything. Last week we had a kid do it, his dad pulled him from the game.

And that should be part of the consequences/backlash against Kapernick. Showing how he influences people of that age that can't/don't understand why he's doing it. They do it to imitate a famous person that's expressing himself.

In NJ Public schools, we were all required to salute the flag and say the "Pledge of Allegiance" in Homeroom pretty much K-12. So it was drilled into us. It might have been better if, perhaps, they explained why it's important to do so. Because, believe it or not, there were "pre-historic Kapernicks" even in my sophomore HS class. The standard in the class was that you were not required to salute the flag (i.e. place right hand over heart and recite the "Pledge"). But you were required to stand at attention while others did. They even protested that. They just wanted to sit at their desks and gab (i.e. do whatever it is they wanted to do). There was quite a row about it.

It's Funny... I recall a WB cartoon called "Old Glory." It addresses this very issue. Porky Pig (cast as a young child) doesn't understand why he should say the pledge, He falls asleep and into a dream where "Uncle Sam" shows up and explains why he should...

Here is that cartoon in four parts (courtesy of YouTube) -

Old Glory - Part 1
Old Glory - Part 2
Old Glory - Part 3
Old Glory - Part 4

One warning... This cartoon was done before the phrase "under God" was added to the Pledge.

We played one of our rival college baseball teams last week in a fall league game who had a player who took a knee during the National Anthem that day, after that saw the Coach rip on his ass up and down ...... found out today the punk was kicked off the team and his full ride scholarship pulled.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

If I were the coach, I'd be very careful... this case might wind up being a "test case" in court. Depending on how the contract is worded, he (player) might be able to sue for breach of contract. Not unless there's some clause that lets the coach terminate a player for such a reason...

The Coach is not the one who dismisses from the team/revokes scholarships, he can only recommend.
I've seen scholarships revoked before (eg. - grades-after school hours activities-social media foul ups, etc.), I'm thinking? the wording in the scholarship paperwork is ... 'conduct unbecoming'.
The sad thing is, once the word gets out amongst the coaching/scouting community about this fuzz nuts .... well, let's say - he's done.
