Default DW Guardian 38 Super Project

So maybe if Keith won't make me a Guardian in 38 Super then I'll have to do it myself. Here is what I am doing ... hope you find it interesting.

First ... The Guardian in 9mm ... Yes, those are COTEP grips:

I decided to go with a new slide (Fusion - flat topped and serrated) ... It looks like this:

For a barrel. I went with a Storm Lake Bull Barrel in 38 Super:

I fit the barrel to the slide (tightly) knowing it will need more fitting when I get the slide fit to the frame:

in order to get the slide to fit the frame (it was super tight) and not wanting to ruin the fit and finish on the base Guardian, I used a sacrificial slide I had lying around. Here she is ... an old Safari Arms slide that I use with a Tac Sol 22 conversion. My arms were tired from all the lapping:

Ok ... the slide fits ... and fits pretty good I might add. I had to work down the ejector to create clearance there and may need to change out the ejector altogether to get it to run right. We'll see:

Now, the link doesn't line up with the slide stop pin so more fitting is required. Also, Because it is a Bull Barrel, I have to mill away some clearance (.085") on the back of the dust cover to fit the reverse plug. Plenty more work to do. I will update this thread as I go (slowly).
Let me know if there is anything in particular would might want to see. Suggestions on a finish would be helpful too ... slide is carbon steel, not stainless.

+1 on what Daed said above. When we shot together and you told me about some of your tools (ultrasonic and blaster).... I thought "this guy's serious about his firearms"... But to embark on a project like this? I can't wait to see the results! Wait... scratch that... I can't wait to SHOOT the results of your work!
