Being familiar with your equipment is the problem here I think. He was using a different holster earlier in the day and as he explained while drawing from the other holster he inadvertantly tripped the safety and hit the holster release (so he thought) and hit the trigger instead and BOOM!

I'm glad after he shoot himself, "his training took over".

too bad his training forgot the step " Keep the bugger hook off the bang switch".

i kinda wonder what he was trying to prove anyway..
If the perp is that close, prolly better headbutting the bastard and then kick him in the nads.
It's faster and more effective at that distance, because if you draw that close, the perp is just going to grab yer hand and you end up with a melee and you might very well end up eating your own boolit.. oh , wait, i get it now!
