Default Health Heads-Up

A childhood friend texted me this AM to tell me he was just back from his doctor. This friend is 58, has worked out regularly for over forty years, no smoke, no drink. He had a stroke due to a hole in his heart, maybe five years ago. Anyways, he wakes up Tuesday, hits the head, gets to his kitchen and has to sit on the floor cause he is sure he is passing out. Paramedics come, he is rushed to the hospital, but his blood pressure is now normal...Here is the deal....
It's called Post Micturition Syncope----->Micturition syncope or post-micturition syncope is the name given to the human phenomenon of fainting shortly after or during urination. It is a type of Vasovagal response.

People often become pale, nauseated, sweaty and weak before they lose consciousness. Sometimes even defecating, coughing, or severe vomiting may cause fainting in a similar way.

Seems that as we age we shouldn't jump out of bed after a sound sleep, then quickly go pee. I just found out my wife counsels patients on this all the time, but it was never an issue with me. I wake up and hit the ground running, which is over as of today. Now I'm putting a fridge next to my bed so I don't have to run to the kitchen for my Coors Lite. So, what we should do, is wake up, sit one the edge of the bed for a minute or so, then start the day. I didn't know about this till today, I'm sharing it cause now I believe waking more slowly is healthier. But I still will never hit a snooze button.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

We had a workshop deal at work a few years back and they told us the same thing. We should sit at the end of the bed and stretch for a few minutes before starting each day to help aid the circulation of the blood.

Must be some truth to it.

Amazing, isn't it? You could think you're dying from waking up quick and peeing. And my friend is the picture of health...small waist, bodybuilder upper torso, full head of hair.....looks 20 years younger than I do. He is well off $$$ wise, retired, no worries there. Just amazes me. Here is a little story from my Uncle Ed, now deceased....

Uncle Ed was a very successful attorney, but he was gettin' old. One day we were playing golf. He was fartin', a little dizzy from a mild diabetes diagnosis, and too stiff to swing like he used to. He turns to me and says.."Joey, the money is useless, if you can get up in the morning and take a good sh*t and a good p*ss you are a success" I laughed like hell at him 20 years ago. I'm learning he wasn't kidding.
