Default The Double WHAMMY!

So in the middle of September my parents (in their 80's)were making a trip up to see my sisters in Medford, a VERY long drive for them. They stopped at a restaurant in Redding to wait for my sister to meet them and drive over the Siskiyou's to Medford. While they waited some asshats broke into the Tahoe and cleaned it out, everything including dad's 3 pistols in his suitcase. 1 of which was his 1952 H&R 999 .22 that he bought new. He bought me one for a graduation present in 75' that I still have. He didn't want me to send mine to him so he would have something at home. Well I decided to find him a new one for his birthday the end of October. I searched high and low and found a never been fired 1969 999 that I bought. Absolutely mint condition. It has taken me 3 weeks to get it in my hands.
So Thursday morning I was at work when my wife called and told me to drop everything and call my parents NOW! when I asked what was up she said just google Paradise... what I saw made me crap my pants.
When I got a hold of my mom I asked "what the hell are you still doing there!!"
She said they were packing the Tahoe as fast as they could and getting out. I said Papers, pills, clothes, money, jewelry, guns the dog and run. Well it took them than I wanted but they got out. 4 and a half hours to get 20 miles to Chico, they drove through tunnels of fire and falling trees. My wife called my sister who dropped everything and ran for Chico. She was stopped at Los Molinos road block and watched cars for an hour til my parents went by.

So after 3 days of hell they are still battling the fastest moving most distructive fire in state history. At it's peak it was consuming 3 football fields a second, it grew from 10 acres to over 5000 in 90 minutes. It's well over 20,000 acres and now being measured in sq. miles, It is fixing to explode all over again as the red flag wind warnings (50+ mph) just went back up for today.
The town of Paradise is gone 90+% destroyed (in 3 hours!) with the surrounding communities evac numbers are well over 50,000. The home I grew up in is ashes. Many, many missing friends but Mom and Dad are safe in Medford... Prayers for the people of Paradise.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

Thank You. Their spirits and positive attitude about the whole mess is amazing to me.

Well, just when you think they might get the upper hand, the winds are up again. The fire has gone to:

135,000 acres burned
35 percent contained and losing ground...
48 fatalities confirmed, 3 firefighters injured
8,817 structures destroyed, 7,600 of them homes

and it's on the move... again
** Oh yea, of the nearly 300 missing they have released 108 names most all are 75 or older...
