Written by a friend of a friend. it accurately depicts what many of us feel needs to be done once and for all.
"I am writing to express my opinions related to terrorism and to request that you start taking effective action against jihadists, and not against law-abiding, Constitution-supporting Americans. I particularly find statements that dismiss Islamist terror and blame freedom-loving Americans - by the President, his Administration, and his supporters in the House and Senate - offensive and insulting. Virtually immediately after the latest Islamist terror attack in Orlando, the Administration and its supporters in Congress (and the media) began the inevitable politicization, including blaming political opponents and apologizing for, and excusing, the terrorists. In countless news stories, both in print and on air, I heard various federal and state level politicians describe this act as “senseless” violence – as if the killings were committed by a garden variety criminal or “troubled,” mentally ill young person – when in fact, the attack made perfect sense in light of the terrorist’s ideology, history, and actions. This attack is not about gun rights or gay rights – at least not in the American “culture war” context, which, like our Supreme Court rulings or political campaign slogans, is meaningless to those who seek America’s demise. It is terrorism – by any accepted definition. And this terrorist is not a “home-grown violent extremist” - because this terrorism and the belief system that underlies it are not products of America. Rather, this anti-American terror is demonstrably foreign-inspired (if not foreign-connected or foreign-supported) and carried out by a terrorist who seeks the death of Americans, the destruction of our government and free society, and the imposition of sharia law and the Islamic caliphate. We have seen this same type of attack numerous times since 9/11 (2001!), here and abroad; and every time, our leaders treat each attack as an isolated event, disconnected from all the others – as if the lack of specific, detailed threats negate the general threats issued by our enemies over and over and over again. I simply cannot understand how the reality of the Islamist menace is not obvious to anyone who pays even casual attention to news reports – from any region of the globe – and why informed observers, media commentators, and politicians, continue to ponder motive as if they are going to find something different if only they debate it a little longer. After all of the attacks in different places and by different means – guns, knives, bombs, etc. – to not accept the reality of jihad is willful denial at best and suicidal stupidity at worst. Our own CIA Director, who in my opinion has not taken a hard line against Islamists, admitted in recent days that ISIS is undiminished and continues to train and arm jihadists to attack the US and the West. It goes without saying that ISIS is not the only manifestation of the Islamic, sharia-supremacist danger to us, and more importantly, our children and future posterity. The Islamist political agenda for America is well documented, and to turn a blind eye to it or dismiss it as the “Islamaphobic,” lunatic ravings of concerned Americans is tantamount to approval and support. How could anyone charged with protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States look at the incessant terror attacks in America, Europe, Israel – not to mention the regular carnage that goes on in Islamic majority countries – and blame the victims, American policy specifically, or our political system generally? Of course there are peaceable Muslims in America and the world, but the extensively documented history of Islamic expansion over the last 1400 years is one of death, destruction, and persecution for millions of people – in all lands, of all faiths, and in all centuries. When you look at the socio-politico-economic disruptions in Europe today brought about by the “refugee” problem, how do any of us look at the associated violence, rape, disease, etc. and think it is inconceivable here in America – when we know these migrants have been infiltrated by people who share the ideological underpinnings of those who happily flew planes into the World Trade Center 15 years ago? We are under no obligation to give aid and comfort to those who seek to destroy us. If immigrants – Muslim or otherwise – want to live in America, not only do they need to live as Americans and support our Constitution, political institutions, and civil society, but if they are truly escaping persecution, then they should be the first in line to help our intelligence and law enforcement entities combat the oppressive forces they supposedly left behind. I understand that after every crisis you feel the need to “do something” and pass more laws, be they meaningful or not. To reduce the Orlando terrorist attack to an issue of gun rights dishonors the memory of the victims and does nothing to address the fact that we need Islamist control, not gun control. The following is a list of substantive actions you could take, any one or more of them would do far more to mitigate future terror attacks: • Stop the attacks on Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Our guns are the last line of defense against these jihadist monsters. We already know that the police have no obligation to protect us, and more importantly, they cannot be in all places at all times. • Abandon this “Countering Violent Extremism” concept championed by the Muslim Brotherhood et al that waters down the threat we face specifically from Islamist extremism, and thus is not effective in combatting our enemies who seek to destroy us. If other, non-Muslim threats pose a danger then by all means, continue to investigate and take appropriate legal actions; but those near-mythical threats pale in comparison to the countless thousands of Islamist attacks since the much referenced Timothy McVeigh blew up the federal building in 1995. • Designate the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR and related groups as terrorist groups; cut off their funding; deny them access to sensitive government secrets, our lawmakers, and the policy making process. • Allow intelligence, homeland security, and law enforcement personnel to fulfill their duties – to use terms like “sharia” and “jihad” or any other terms that accurately reflect concepts and practice, regardless of whether or not these terms are religious in nature. And allow them to collect, analyze and disseminate intelligence based on real world events and the capabilities and intentions of our enemies. • Enable our law enforcement and intelligence resources to start cracking down on known terror cells, subversive mosques, and other “cultural centers” and institutions that are known to be engaged in anti-American advocacy, support for terrorism, etc. Arrest/deport extremist preachers, cut off their funding, and end their ability to incite violence in person or online. • Punish those who engage in jihad here or seek to travel overseas to do it by stripping them of their citizenship or residency status. Those who effectively want to self deport should be allowed to leave and we should not let them back in. Additionally, there should be negative consequences (with respect to citizenship status and welfare benefit eligibility) for family members and associates. • Stop allowing extremist preachers to radicalize prisoners in federal and state prisons. This is another long-time, well documented problem that increases the corrosive, subversive anti-Americanism in our population. • Secure the southern border, through which we know illegals, including terrorists, are flowing – and given the ease with which they are bringing drugs and weapons, it is not a huge intellectual leap to imagine biological, chemical, and nuclear agents (especially the latter, now that our Administration has enabled the Iranians to press forward with their nuclear program). • Stop immigration from Muslim majority countries unless they are persecuted (Christian or other) minorities, or Muslims who can meet more stringent security standards – and if they are admitted and later found to have lied on immigration forms or interviews or used false online personas, then they should forfeit their rights, lose their citizenship or residency status, and be subject to immediate expulsion. The point is that if you want to prevent potential terror attacks then focus on the actual terror threat, and not the rights of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens. Thank you for your time and attention."
