When you open the cylinder, the model number and serial number are stamped in the valley area. Sorry, I do not know the correct wording for the parts areas yet.
That's where they are on mine.

Okay, it's a K-Frame 357magnum. the -6 indicates it probably has the dreaded Lock on it right by the cylinder-release( Which I can tell you later how to remove,Shhhhhh.)

I have a Model 66-62-1/2" bbl. the SS brother to yours, it had..er...has the lock on it.

The serial number is on the butt. You may have to remove the grips to see it.

The other numbers on the frame and under the stocks, are factory assembly numbers and have no meaning after leaving the factory.

The model 19 was referred to as a Combat Magnum previous to S&W adopting the Model number system in 1957

The dash number as in 19-6 etc refers to various changes made during the times the gun was produced.

The link in the post above will give you a great deal of information including when and what the dash changes mean.

Congrats , you've got yourself a fine wheelgun there. I still have one that was my first handgun purchase in 1972, a 19-3. I am using it to shoot in ICORE matches and the trigger is still as smooth as it has ever been. Mine is the 4" variety, what is the barrel length on yours. OMG no jokes here guys

Bill
