Default Mono range report

Well folks, after a few days of debate over a "high quality" problem that I had regarding fit and finish, read here: ( http://www.cotep.org/forum/showthrea...8087#post78087 ) with my new Mono, I decided to take it to the range today and shoot it.

Oh and before I forget, I met up with "big forum" member "Carcrazysammy" and he gave me some great instruction that vastly improved my shooting skills. Thank you again for all the help today "CCS", especially the drill were we mixed dummy rounds in with live rounds so that I could work on my trigger squeeze and reaction. What a great shooting drill that is to do!

I/we ran 50 rds of Federal 230 gr, 150 rds of PMC Bronze 230 gr and I think 8 rds of handloaded 200 gr SWC, that "CCS" was shooting through his LB TRS and S/A PRO, both beautiful guns that are tack drivers.

Let's just say that after shooting just the 208 rds, I'm really, really impressed with it's operation. I kept it well oiled and not one hiccup, FTF, FTE, FTRB....NOTHING.

I used the 2 stock LB mags and 4 CMC PowerMags that USMC 0802, recommended. NO issues with any of the mags.

One highlight of today was the RO looking at it and immediately recognizing it as a LB Mono and saying to me "great looking pistol, I admire a man who can appreciate a higher end gun".

Can't wait to get to the range again and put more rounds downrange.

I have not broken it down to clean it as like I said, I only ran 208 rounds through it, but I did take it apart last night for S&G's and was amazed at how tight all the parts fit together. Could barely get the guide rod to sit in the frame upon reassembly, but I managed.

Upon departure, I grabbed an old t-shirt that I'd brought and with maybe 2 wipes, she was clean and looking purty again.

Here are a few pics....

Here it is next to the TRS and S/A PRO:

( I have to mention that the patina on the TRS is incredible, "CCS" says he has over 20K rds through it, it looked almost better than my Mono... )

Alone:

And proof that I hit the target. The flyers covered by masking tape were done before "CCS" arrival and help. The others were right before we left and I was getting a little tired. Once he gave me easy to understand and comprehensive instructions, I was able to tighten the groups up considerably.

Sorry, I should have taken a pic of his targets, man can he shoot.

Oh, this was all at 15 yds, not the greatest groups, I still shoot to the left, but they will get better, trust me.

What in the HE** are you shooting in that thing? You may want to consider another powder. WOW. Why did you shoot a hole in the bench? Dummy rounds are good for clearing drills. We sometimes load our buddies mags with dummy rounds during timed shoots to practice clearing malfunctions. What did you decide about the Slide?

How do I say this.....I have a birthmark that covers a large portion of my face, have had to learn to live with it and accept it. Does it affect my daily life as far as being able to walk, talk and go about life in a normal manner? No, it only causes the occasional glance or look from those unaware of "port wine stains" or birthmarks. It makes me unique and gives me character.

To a certain extent, the same could be said about my "issue" with the slide. Is it perfect, NO. Did it hamper the way the gun performed or shot today? NO. Am I laying down and settling? Not yet. I will contact LB again next week and talk with him again.

After a thorough talk with Mayla who reminded me that I'm being a bit over concerned about a barely noticeable gap when I should be more concerned with making sure we can continue to pay the bills, think about others who have it less fortunate, to think of others that have serious illnesses, those who are barely making it by, etc, etc.

I am really lucky to have such a wonderful, grounded wife!

I find myself feeling a little guilty and a little sorry for making such a fuss over "my big toe hurts worse than your broken leg", as a close friend told me the other day when I was explaining the situation to him.

Time to get back to gratitude!!!
