Default Battle-Tested M14 Rifle Withstands the Test of Time

The M14 has been in U.S. military service for over a half-century and seems likely to fill the designated marksman role for a few more years.

Battle-Tested M14 Rifle Withstands the Test of Time

Legendary select-fire 7.62mm NATO warhorse fights on in today’s Global War On Terror!

As this is written, the M14 has been in U.S. military service for over a half-century and seems likely to fill the designated marksman role for a few more years. Ironically, the features that made it a sound design for fighting across the expanses of Europe have made it useful for fighting across the mountainous valleys of Afghanistan.

The M-14 was my T/O weapon in Nam. Our sniper team for the P.D. had two with selectors as the spotter's rifles. I currently own a civilian model. I think they're great rifles!

I agree. I have a M1A Scout. I'm eventually going to put a scope on it.
When the $hit hits the fan I'm grabbing that and a .45.

I also heard or read somewhere that during Desert Storm a lot of the special ops guys pulled many of the Vietnam era M14's out of the armory and put them back in service due that the 5.56 was too light and was greatly affected by the desert storm winds so they needed the heavier bullet.
While plausible, I never got that confirmed.
