For years I have carried my trusty commander, not because of brainwashing, ego or any of that crap. In my mind the 1911 is the best self-defense / carry weapon ever designed. Anyway back to the dilemma. I have been considering another foray into the subcompact game for summer carry. My initial go around was with kimber 10-12 years ago (SHUT-UP

my 3" is a Springer Micro Compact. No reliability issues AT ALL. It is tight, accurate, and pretty much a pleasure to carry.. but it has been supplanted by the 4.25" Dan Wesson CCO. So, the Springer sits in the safe... but I do love her so....

I understand your issue, but, I have 100% confidence in my SIG Ultra 1911. Tough choice, I sold a bunch of XD's, they were the "gotta have" gun of the day. I didn't care for 'em.

I have to admit I too am looking at something a little smaller for carry in the summer. I had heard Tom Grisham's Guntalk about the XDS in the "stunn" mode of .45.... stun=9mm... And There was a good article in Guns and Ammo July '13. A friend dropped by my rehab and I was talking to him about this gun and that I was interested. With that he says "wanna see one". So a chair was placed carefully next to the door to avoid any unwanted visits from nurses, techs and what have you. The XDS has a very nice factory trigger, great feel in the hand, well balanced, small and just over all a nice gun that fit my hand. Cant wait until I am strong enough to go home and find one of these for myself. I tried others: Kahr, sig, walther, keltec and came back to the XDS. JMHO.

A couple of work buddies got XDs .45's when they first came out. They aren't a lot of fun to shoot - I don't care for the trigger and the recoil is uncomfortable if you are shooting a lot. That said, I've been pondering getting one and adding a Powder River Precision trigger job. I put one of their match kits on my XDm 9mm and love it.
For a small 1911 - you should really take a look at the Rock Island 3.5". I have one that's my daily carry. I paid $400 for mine a little over a year ago, and love it. It's accurate, easy to conceal, and has a great trigger. There's nothing I'd change other than softening some of the edges.

My wife has a XD9SC and it is a dream to shoot very accurate. I have shot the 45 XDs and do like it. Mind you it will never have the trigger pull of a 1911, but it is a good gun.
Me I personally carry a G19 90% of the time. I bought my wife's XD after I got my Glock. Afterthought is I would have bought the XD9 instead of the Glock if I would have known how nice it shot.

I have the XDS .45 and love it. No Glock bite from it, but your hand will get a little sore after shooting 100 rounds. Being a single stack mag, it's very thing and easy to carry. I've got a 9mm XDS coming in Friday - can't wait to try it out!

I vote for the ECO. Price has nothing to do with value. With the XDS you will end up with another boring everybody has one that ends up discarded to the safe. I just like finely crafted works of art over plastic guns with stamped parts. IMHO
