Understood. I would expect the legal action to be taken against the school as a whole, with the coach and other executives (Athletic Dir., etc.) named as co-defendants.

Even worse. If 'conduct unbecoming' is not well defined, or there aren't precedents/standards for it, then the student might be able to challenge the action taken against them. They may not win, but they'll try.
