Your memory is not hazy....NCIC is a database from all states in one place. It has to be inputed by the state your license comes from. SO if I run a 10-59 a license check only the information your states want to share about you comes up. If that info is CCW...i get it. MOST don't share that info for reasons for panicing sack.
Now if you state uses SDLIS or III the information will be different but most states are NCIC systems now days.
