Gun Sniffing Dogs???

I dunno... I get how/why the article says they want to use the dogs to search for guns, but I'm concerned with potential for abuses. Specifically, will these dogs be used to discourage law abiding citizens from carrying concealed, especially where they are licensed to do so? Will they have a bunch of these dogs in crowds just searching for people who are carrying concealed, in an effort to harass them (i.e., stop, detain and interrogate anyone carrying concealed, demand their CWFL, etc.)?

I think Amtrak uses dogs like this already.

Amtrack does? If so scrooem what a waste of resources. Why so many pansies keep being afraid of licensed CCW is beyond me.

We are the good guys, don't they get it? The most law-abiding sector of the citizenry is comprised of those who carry concealed.

Well, they do have sniffing dogs. What precisely they're trained to alert on, we don't exactly know. But I'd have to think that it would be various forms of explosives. If "black powder" is one of those explosives, then anyone who has or is transporting any, or rounds, or whatever might be subject to an alert, and then a "Shake & Bake" inspection.

They definitely use these dogs on the Amtrak "Auto t rain" Before a vehicle is loaded onto the container cars in Lorton Va. They have an Amtrak Police dog do a cursory "sniff" once around the exterior of each vehicle. I don't think they'd be sniffing for drugs, in that case. Well, maybe they are, but I'd think that things that can blow up the train are their greater priority. They also allow the dog to walk around the terminal interior (a break from being outside) and sniff for whatever its trained for.

I've also seen these dogs come on the regular "Metroliner" service at the Baltimore train station as the train heads towards DC. Again, sniffing for who knows what, but I suspect some forms of explosives.

When were those rulings? Because I know Amtrak was still deploying dogs as described above through at least July of 2015.

trains would be different for "bombs". But on a traffic stop you can no longer delay the stop with a sniff with out the PC. The court case was Rodriguez and it was about 5-7 weeks ago. Kind our turned the K9 program upside down for right now.
