Funny you mentioned a Thompson! I actually got to shoot a real Thompson with 50 rd drum and 25 rd clips, plus a burp gun! This was back in 1958, and dad brought them to our lake house with a trunk load of 45 ammo, in our 57 Olds. All 3 boys got to shoot both, and I'll always remember that!
Both weapons are still around, currently residing at the OCPD gun range, in their safe.

Is the 38 s&w worth shooting? As old as it is, do I need to find old style ammo or will new ammo work ok in it?

My Dad didn't own any guns, but I have my granfather's Mossberg .22 mag.

Any gun handed down should be a keeper, IMO

I believe so. It has the safety inthe grip, and breaks open from the top.

My aunt once mailed me a gun she said she found when going through her dad's (my G-dad) stuff after her mom passed. She just mailed it with a note explaining the circumstances, and acknowledging that she knows I collect guns, and she knows nothing about guns. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find an 8" sawed off shotgun....

this is when you lived in Hypothetical land right, because you would never admit to receiving a weapon in the mail while living in the US.
