I had thought about scrimshawing my ivory grips, but went with a medallion instead. I'm familiar with scrimshaw having lived in an old whaling community all my life (Moby Dick's New Bedford). The question I have is, if it's a daily carry gun, won't the ink have a tendancy to wear away? I've seen older scrimshaw that has eroded from heavy use.
It might, depending on the amount of use. I try to make the etching fairly deep to prevent that, though. I recommend rubbing some Renaissance Wax (Brownell's sells it) on them from time to time to help preserve the artwork if they're going to see a lot of use. You shouldn't have to "baby" them though.

Ok guys. School ended for me last week, and I am about to get started on these COTEP logo grips. I will be doing them in the order that folks posted their "I'm in," so be expecting a pm from me in the next few weeks if you posted such a comment in the thread. If you want a custom design, keep in mind I may or may not have to charge more, depending on how much more complicated (ie time consuming) the design is, but I'm reasonable, and will discuss design ideas with you via pm if you have questions.

If you want to see some other scrimshaw to give you an idea of what it looks like, take a look at this thread.

Take care guys,
Jason
