I finally got to the range with the M1917 that I inherited after my step father's death. Since I have had a Mosin Nagant, I wasn't too worried about the rifle's punch.
First the magazine loaded the rounds smoothly without any wiggle. The bolt was extremely smooth. It never once bound up like the Mosin does on occasion when hot. The rounds fed without problem into the chamber.
The trigger is of medium weight. I've read it's supposed to be about 4-1/2 pounds and that felt about right. Lighter than my handgun's DA (9 to 10 pounds) and heavier than it's SA (1-1/2 lbs).
It weighs about 9 pounds so shooting from a bench is great but I shoot it unsupported to get a feel for it.
The front sight seems to be slightly bent, but that point seems to be the correct POA. The back sight has a battle sight and then a scalable pop up sight for moving out in yardage. It looks like the sight will scale out to about 1200 yards.
I used Winchester ammo today. I wasn't sure if it is brand picky but the Winchester was fine. The first five rounds were high. Then I started to dial it in.
So not too bad. The target is a 25 yard target that replicates 100 yards. Here's another.
I didn't take a lot of ammo so I only shot it for 20 minutes or so. The gun didn't get as hit as the Mosin does but there is a lot more wood on the M1917 than the Mosin.
Overall, it's more accurate than me, which is great because I should be able to grow into the gun with practice.
Also my phone was almost out of power so I didn't take a lot of pictures and didn't think to get a picture of the gun at the range. Next time.
