Here's the way I see it
The .gif image is slowed down from actual speed. In reality the flash came from the front of the cylinder at the forcing cone . It just recoiled so fast backwards that the camera makes it appear like it comes from the rear when in fact it did not. Trick of the eye so to speak? That's my theory. For what it is worth.
