I also plan to pick up an RIA, and it will likely not be a .45. A .38 Super would be good, and 9X21 or 9X23 would be even better.

9mm RIA or .38 Super RIA. If I get the .38 Super, I'll reload for it, no question!

I voted in your poll but I think you are going in the wrong direction. I had .38, 45, 9mm, 380, and on and on. I made the decision to go exclusively to .45 except for .22 and a BUG in 380. It helps logisically. You establish your favorite load easily and reduces costs as you don't have to invest in multiple types of bullets, dies, etc. For me, it just made life simpler when I have enough complicated in other areas. YMMV

I am a 10mm freak! I recently bought my first 38 super, now I have three. Speed of 10mm less recoil and cheaper to shoot.

Voted 38 Super because I too always wanted one but never took the step. Have at least 5 1911s in 45acp, 3 in 10mm and 1 in 9mm. I reload for all my guns so the 38 Super should not be an issue. Went with the 9mm only because cheap ammo is available for plinking if I do not feel like reloading plus it was only marginal difference in ballistics if I wanted it for SD.

wxl.... this is my line of thinking too.... I'm leaning toward a 9mm. I can always go back for the 38 Super, but no one seems to have one in stock. Also, the 9 has Novak vs. Milspec sights, and an extended beavertail for about 60 bucks more. hmmm.... there are always decisions and tradeoffs...

Default 38 Super Question

In looking at my next project, one possibility that I am considering is a 9mm, or 38 super 1911. I notice when looking at ammunition suppliers, (I do not reload) that they seem to mostly sell 38 super +P. (Buffalo Bore only sold 38 super +P) Most manufacturers that I am aware of recommend against using + cartridges; and, it is my understanding that they are harder on the pistols.
I am interested in others experiences and opinions on using the 38 super plus + ammunition in their 38 supers.

I am leaning toward an AR 10 platform, or a 9mm/38 super 1911 for my next birthday.

Best wishes.
